Hi all,
Hope everyone's summers were alternately productive and restful and that
fall finds everyone is good spirits.
The IFI staff just met to review a number of projects' summer workshop
experiences. One theme that seems very important when doing inquiry
workshops for teachers was to have way of connecting the ideas from IFI
activities to the classroom.
Although none of the IFI activities are make and take, there are ideas that
teachers CAN take away and use in their classrooms. Being up-front with
teachers about what they can take away from the activities helps them to
buy-in after they are told NOT to repeat these staff development activities
with their students.
Here are two requests and a resource:
* Has anyone found effective ways of connecting the ideas in the IFI
activities (questioning, process skills, etc.) to classroom applications?
Please send them to the list or contact me to talk about them if you want
help putting the ideas into words to share.
and
* Please let IFI know (in advance) when your districts/projects are
presenting IFI-influenced staff development. We are VERY interested in your
work, and, as much as our schedules allow, would like to visit during
workshops or at least have a conversation about your work. Thanks!
*** on-line Resource ***
Most of you have already seen the Inquiry issue of Connect magazine which
includes six case studies of inquiry in the classroom at different grade
levels.
It is now on-line and can be shared with teachers and teacher educators at
http://www.exploratorium.edu/ifi/resources/classroom/connect/
Hope people have found this to be a useful resource,
Fred
