Hi folks,
Wave Hill Environmental Center is looking for a Distance Learning partner for a Bronx middle school.
Below is a letter and description from Roland Rogers, Assistant Director of Education
Thanks,
John Cafarella
Newburgh
We are also still looking for a partner for a middle school in the Bronx
(ms/hs 368 in D10) to conduct a distance communication project around
invertebrates, resulting in a fun cultural exchange, as well.
Below is a sort of "call for partners" letter. Do you know of a great
school or teacher in another part of the country (or the world!) who might
be interested?

Located in District 10 of New York City, and starting its second year as a
school, the IN-Tech Academy (MS/HS 368) works to incorporate technology into
their curriculum. In the students' own words, "Our school's mission is to
give us the knowledge needed to become independent learners and original
thinkers who will work to improve our quality of life. At IN_Tech, we will
learn to use technology to access, organize, compile, analyze, and create
new information, which will insure success in our competitive technological
world." The partner class is a 6th grade, honors science class.

International Invertebrates - The Program
The goal of International Invertebrates is to connect two separate classes
in different parts of the world (or different climates) to simultaneously
study invertebrates, become "experts" on their local invertebrates and
habitats, and then share their findings via email and the Internet. The
connection which is established will also serve as a means of facilitating a
cultural exchange between the students of the two classes.
Basic Program requirements include:
* Students should have access to computers and the Internet at least 2
times per week.
* Teachers and/or students should have an e-mail account accessible
from school.
* Class curriculum should be able to incorporate the study of
invertebrates and their habitats. (Wave Hill will provide lesson plans and
activities for invertebrate studies if necessary)
* Teachers should be able to commit at least 1 period per week for 6
to 12 weeks (November to May), to the exchange, and have principal or
assistant principal support.
The project does allow flexibility in the planning process between the
participating schools and teachers. If you are interested in this distance
learning collaboration and would like to see a preliminary schedule of
activities please contact:
