Hi all,

I can only give some anecdotal response to the question about the "REAL
needs or interests of classroom teachers." I teach a class in making web
pages for elementary teachers in science. What I have heard is that they
want lessons which have a clear outcome based on the National Standards.
They want these pages to be interactive and they want the student
preparation time to be as small as possible.

One way we can help elementary teachers integrate internet technology into
the classroom is to identify sites which are fairly self explanatory and
easy to get students started. We have developed some home pages to
correspond with our science kits and some other curricular area. These can
be found at

http://seedsnet.stark.k12.oh.us/SEEDSKits/default.html

These have been written by classroom teachers for use with their own
students.

There is also a big demand for starting points to find more information
about the animals which teachers are using in their classrooms. That is on
the bottom of the page.

I have found that many teachers are not familiar with search engines and
get frustrated by dead ends and poor searches. They really appreciate a
site with a list of a few good sites instead of an encyclopedia of sites
with half of them out of date. Most of the classroom teachers which I have
met are really at the novice or pre-novice stage.

It mght be nice to have a home page with only the very best in teacher
resources. I would hold it down to 10 - 15 sites with a small synopsis of
each site. This would help teachers who are on a limited time budget to
get to the most useful material immediately and not feel as they have
wasted their time.

Hope this helps

Dave
