Copyright in the Digital Age:
A talk by Carrie Russell
The BayNet Annual Meeting was held Tuesday, May 2, 2006, 8:30-11:30am in San Francisco at the World Affairs Council (312 Sutter Street).
Carrie Russell, copyright Specialist at the American Library Association Office for Information Technology Policy was the featured speaker. Her topic was Copyright in the Digital Age. Carrie provided an update on developments in the copyright arena, including recent legislation and current topics such as digital archives, digital rights management, fair-use practice, and other issues with potential impact on libraries.
Carrie, who holds both an M. A. degree in Media Arts (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee ) and an M.L.I.S. degree (University of Arizona), is a well known advocate for fair use alternative publishing models for scholarly communication. In her position at the A.L.A. Office for Information Technology Policy, Carrie conducts research, develops educational materials on copyright for librarians, and promotes information policies that support library principles. Carrie was a librarian at the University of Arizona prior to her tenure at A.L.A. She is also the author of Complete Copyright: An Everyday Guide for Librarians (published by A.L.A. in 2004) and numerous articles.
