BayNet Annual Meeting, Thursday April 29th, 9:00-11:30 a.m. - FREE!!

Featuring internet guru Gary Price, co-author of The Invisible Web and the compiler/editor of the Resourceshelf (http://www.resourceshelf.com). Price will speak at our annual meeting on three main topics, with Q&A sessions in between. Gary's presentations have always drawn great interest and we are especially pleased that he found time in his busy schedule to come to the Bay Area.
Web Search Engine Update: What's going on with Google (which could be a public company by the time of the meeting), Yahoo's new database, issues of privacy and corporate censorship. In addition, Gary has a business arrangement with a service called "Muse" which offers a service for libraries to have a single point of searching for all the library's databases, plus Google or other free sources as well, de-duping the results and working with the commercial databases and library' authentication system.
"When does Gary Sleep?" Current awareness services and alerts tools. Gary will talk about the various services, sources and strategies for staying on top of the most exciting recent developments.
The Future is Today: What's new and note-worthy. For example, searching multi-media (searching by words spoken that leads to a video clip containing the passage searched.) He will tell us about voice-recognition software in the making of these databases.

This Free event will be held at the World Affairs Council, 312 Sutter Street (near Grant), San Francisco. Parking is available at the Stockton Street Garage or you can walk from the Powell Street BART station.

Please RSVP Steven Dunlap, Golden Gate University at sad@ggu.edu or 415-442-7247 by April 21, 2004.
