The Flora Lamson Hewlett Library of the Graduate Theological Union is inviting applications for the position of Special Collections Assistant. Position Summary:

Process archival and manuscript collections; develop and update the Archives and Special Collections web page; prepare finding aids; supervise volunteers; provide support to Archivist; participate in interdepartmental planning and work-sharing; other duties as assigned.  The Special Collections Assistant reports to the Archivist.

 

Minimum qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in humanities, preferably in history or religious studies.

 

Ability to work independently as a member of the Archives and Special Collections department; strong service orientation and excellent communication skills, experience in an academic library; willingness to attend workshops and other educational events related to library technology; ability to pay attention to detail; a commitment to theological education; driver’s license and ability to lift 50 lbs

 

Salary and benefits:

Appointment at Library Assistant III rank and salary commensurate with qualifications. Excellent benefits.

The Graduate Theological Union is a center for graduate theological study, clergy education, and applied research and public policy formation in religion and society. The GTU community consists of approximately 130 faculty, 1300 students and 125 staff. The Library staff serves the research, teaching, and study needs of the consortium, and provides reference assistance to local religious leaders, the general public, and students from other institutions within the Bay Area. This position offers an exciting opportunity to participate in the continuing development of the largest theological library in the western United States.
