Part-Time Reference/Instruction Librarian, California State University East Bay, Hayward, CA

(a) Teach credit courses and other instructional sessions in the Libraries’ Information Literacy program.

(b) Provide quality reference service to CSUEB undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, staff, and other library patrons during weekdays, weeknights, and/or weekends. Provide point-of-use instruction in the use of the online catalog, electronic databases, and other library resources. Perform other duties as assigned, which may include developing bibliographic source guides and/or Internet-based tools; assisting in collection development and collection management process and projects, and providing service at CSUEB’s Concord campus in Contra Costa County.

Qualifications:

Graduate degree from an ALA-accredited institution; familiarity with the principles of information literacy; recent teaching experience and/or education in teaching methods; recent experience and/or education in the provision of academic reference services; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work collegially in a diverse, fast-paced environment; a strong service commitment; a willingness and ability to serve students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. Preference will be given to candidates with recent professional experience in reference or instruction in an academic setting. Preference will also be given to candidates able to work regular shifts on nights and week-ends, and who are able to work at our Concord campus if needed.

Date of Appointment: Effective July 1, 2008.
