Library Associates Companies (LAC) seeks a
Business / Legal Researcher our client, a growing and dynamic research firm in San Francisco. The Specialist will be responsible for providing business, legal, and general reference services to the staff various databases and research tools.
Responsibilities
- Conduct business and legal research;
- Review various sources of information for reliability, relevance, and cost effectiveness, then chooses the best sources for answering research requests.
- Interface with law firms, agencies, libraries and organizations;
- Maintain familiarity with the library's own information resources, in particular its catalog, circulation, acquisitions, and routing systems;
- Maintain awareness of current developments in the industry, specifically with developments regarding new specialized databases relevant to the offices' practice areas;
- Make recommendations for new acquisitions of information resources to the library director;
- Provide orientation and training sessions regarding library procedures, resources, and databases;
- Completes special projects on various issues as assigned;
- Light lifting of books and other library materials is required;
- May perform other library administrative and technical services tasks.
EDUCATION
- Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) is preferred, however a Master's degree in another specialty may be considered in lieu of the MLS
OR
- A minimum of three (3) years research experience in a related industry library may be substituted for the Master's degree.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of automated business and legal database research systems;
- Knowledge of print reference sources in business and legal areas;
- Comfortable multitasking and working in an extremely fast-paced environment;
- Strong analytical skills with minimal supervision needed;
- Ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm;
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Capable of collaborating with research staff in their own and other offices;
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion;
- Ability to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines;
- Knowledge and proficiency in PC applications, including MS Office.
