Full Time Library Assistant

Description:

The Menlo School Library is seeking a qualified candidate for a full time position as Library Assistant. The library serves 750 students in grades 6 through 12, along with teachers, staff and parents. Students use the library during classes, free periods and before and after school, making the library a busy destination that draws a crowd at all times of the day.

Responsibilities:

The Full Time Library Assistant will be one of two staff members working under the direction of the Head Librarian. Primary responsibilities will be to manage circulation, periodicals, and parent volunteers, and to provide minor tech support for library hardware. The Full Time Library Assistant will have joint responsibility for receiving and processing new materials, and will assist students and teachers with research needs and with the use of library equipment. In addition, the Full Time Library Assistant will oversee scheduling and delivery of several laptop carts to Upper School classrooms and will oversee the library scheduling calendar. This position will be available Mid-August.

Qualifications:

The qualified candidate will have an affinity for working with teenagers and the ability to maintain a sense of humor while balancing the academic and social uses of the library. Candidates should have experience with Macintosh OSX, Microsoft Office applications, and searching the Internet. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to multitask are essential. Applicants should enjoy reading and discussing fiction and nonfiction books that are of interest to teens. A bachelor's degree is required; previous experience in a school library is helpful, but initiative and a willingness to learn new skills are of primary importance.
