Temporary 6 month position with possibility of extension 75-100% time
Salary: full-time rate: $3,252-$4,260(monthly), $39,024-$46,812(annual)

Job Description:

The Giannini Foundation of Agricultural Economics Library provides research support for faculty, students, staff and other researchers in Agricultural and Environmental Economics in the campus community and around the world. See our web site for more information http://are.berkeley.edu/library.

This is a variable time position, requiring 30-40 hours per week or 75-100% time, for 6 months with possibility of extension.

Responsibilities:

REFERENCE/PUBLIC SERVICE (35%)
Act as one of three staff members primarily responsible for keeping the Library open to the public 8-12, 1-5pm M-F
In conjunction with the Librarian, answer in person, phone and email reference questions to on campus and off campus users using print and electronic resources in Agricultural Economics
Teach and assist patrons in the use of library resources, including specialized databases (e.g. Econlit, Web of Science, World Development Indicators, Melvyl and Orpha) and print collections
Assist patrons in the use of the Library copy machine, scanner & reader printer
Answer domestic and foreign correspondence in writing concerning ARE working paper distribution and cost

CATALOGING/TECHNICAL SERVICES (65%)
Perform original cataloging of pamphlets and books with routine revision.
Responsible for copy cataloging at a high level using Melvyl, Worldcat and Inmagic Dbtext software
Prepare library materials for binding
Work with Librarian on special projects as needed
Digitize and upload library materials to electronic repositories
Requirements & Qualifications:

REQUIRED:
BA degree
2+ years of experience in a special or academic library
Excellent communication skills
Accurate typing skills
Meticulous attention to detail
Knowledge of and ability to learn a variety of computer applications such as database software, word processing software, bibliographic management software

PREFERRED:
Knowledge of Inmagic Dbtext software
Experience with library cataloging practices
Library reference experience, advanced database/internet searching skills
Experience working with and/or digitizing rare library materials
Coursework in Economics, Agriculture or Environmental Science
