DIVISION OF AGRICULTURE AND NATURAL RESOURCES: Water Resources Center Archives.

Salary: $35,352 - $39,300.

Note: Position is located on the UC Berkeley campus.

Responsibilities: The Technical Services library assistant III - IV reports to the Associate Librarian. The Library Assistant (LA) performs copy and original cataloging primarily in the books format using OCLC and Connexion, AACR2, MARC21, and LC Subject Headings. The LA performs other related technical services duties such as checking in serials using an online check-in system, preparing materials for binding, and preparing material to be sent to the Northern Regional Library Facility and maintaining the shelf list. The LA assists in publishing the /Selected Recent Accessions list in an electronic format six times per year. The LA supervises one work-study student and provides training in all duties related to this position. Miscellaneous duties include compiling and reporting statistics, answering some directional and bibliographic questions, and training a student to use a labeling program. The LA may assist with other special projects as time permits.

Qualifications:

Required: The classification as an LA III requires 2 years of cataloging experience; classification as an LA IV requires 3 years of cataloging experience. The position also requies experience using OCLC and Connexion, excellent communication and organizational skills, ability to change tasks quickly and easily, attention to detail, accuracy and ability to work with a diverse clientele, physical ability to push book trucks, and handle material to be shelved or shifted.

Preferred: Experience using WORD and EXCEL, skills using the Internet and Web resources.
