We have mouhted a half lens whose focal length is about 5 cm in one of the MIT Science Study Centers optical benches. A millimeter scale is viewed through the half lens and a second millimeter scale, further away, is viewed over the top of the half lens. The students can locate the virtual image by the method of parallax, and can measure the magnification by comparing the two scales.
