EXPERIMENTS IN PHYSICS WITH DR. FRANK OPPENHEIMER

Program 11: Electric Field Mapping

We use the standard Cenco-Overbeck electric field mapping apparatus to plot the electric fields around various conductors. In this apparatus, masonite boards are covered with a uniform high resistance conducting paint (Stainless steel in the video). Electrodes of various shapes are placed onto the board. The potential difference is divided into seven steps with resistors, and the equi-potentials are determined by finding the position of the probe to give zero current through a galvanometer.
