[SLA-SF] Wikis within Corporate Libraries?

Hello, All,

Sorry for any cross-posting, but I've been asked by some people within our
company to help establish and coordinate an internal Wiki. Our IT
department would provide technical support, but they obviously do not want
to get into the nitty-gritty stuff. I would like to know if any
corporate libraries are already providing this service to their
organizations and, if so, they'll general feelings about the service.

I have seen instances of university and public libraries getting involved
with Wikis, but I would like to know if anyone has any experience in the
corporate world with these. I am afraid that this would be a potential
timesink, since our division has 37,000 employees worldwide. I've ordered
some book titles to get more familiar with Wiki's, but comments from other
corporate librarians with experience in this topic are greatly
appreciated.

Within the Philips organization, we have an internal system called the
Yellow Pages which organizes employees and their specialties. With the
eminent spin-off of our Semiconductors division, I am looking for a
workable alternative solution to information networking.

I will be happy to share any data I receive with anyone who responds with
their experiences.

Thanks!

Cliff
