LISSTEN’s 3rd Annual Banned Books Week Read-A-Thon
Sunday, October 1st, 12pm, at Cal State Fullerton
Call for Readers!
SJSU SLIS student organization LISSTEN (Library and Information Science
Students to Encourage Networking) is hosting their annual Banned Books
Week event on Sunday, October 1st, 12pm, at Cal State Fullerton. This
year is special in that we’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of ALA’s
Banned Books Week.
As we are in the planning stages of this event, we’re calling out to
all librarians, library students, teachers, and 1st Amendment
enthusiasts to participate in celebrating Banned Books Week with us by
reading a segment of one of their favorite banned or challenged books
for our read-a-thon.
In addition to the read-a-thon, participants will also enjoy art,
spoken word performances, storytelling, and a group discussion led by
Echo Park PL’s YA Librarian Wendy McPherson about the current political
climate of censorship, literature, and information dissemination.
This event is free to the public and all participants are encouraged to
invite their colleagues, family, and friends to enjoy this celebration
of our freedom to read, learn, and exchange ideas.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Anne Knight,
LISSTEN President and Banned Books Week Committee Chair at
digress at 9250x.com
