How to be a Fearless Employee: Risk, Influence, Vision and Choice
Instructor: Pat Wagner, Pattern Research
www.pattern.com <file://www.pattern.com>
Friday, September 29, 2006
8:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.
California State University, Sacramento Library
The fearless employee is able to stay productive, get along with
colleagues, administrators, and library users, and tell the truth. The
ability to maintain productivity and good humor in an uncertain
workplace
is based on four workplace survival skills: managing risks, developing
and
maintaining ethical influence, creating compelling futures for yourself
and others, and making difficult choices in a timely fashion.
Participants
will practice the applications of these principles to their workplaces
and
career situations in written exercises, discussion, case studies, role
play, lecture and demonstration. They will identify the ten skill sets
everyone needs to stay employable and learn how to think of themselves
as
businesses looking for customers. They will learn how to maintain good
workplace relationships. Finally, they will know how to identify the
seven
warning signs that will tell them when it is time to leave their current
job.
Pat Wagner has 25 years' experience working with libraries of all types.
She has worked with ALA, MLA, and the California State Library's
Infopeople Project.
