How about "vita"? (as in Vita-meata-vege-min from an old "I Love Lucy" episode)
Also "chaim" from Yiddish. Or "vie" from French? Or "vida" from Spanish?

Although I am a visual resources librarian, I occasionally get questions about words. Here's where I need a little help (perhaps from health or life sciences or humanities librarians?) for a naming project for a company with diverse businesses in technical and household manufacturing.
The question of the day is how is "life" expressed in language? We've gleaned some stuff from the viva, vitro, bio- and corpus roots, as well as using the word "life" itself. Can you think of any other directions? Send me a list! Bend your mind a little for associations with colors or moods (is "life" always optimistic?) It doesn't have to be Latin-derived, though the preference is for an "English sound." (!) Could be phrases or words or word stems. Don't worry if we already have it, just brainstorm today and send it along.
Citations for books or web sites are also welcome, if you deem 'em applicable. Please reply off-list to christineorr@mindspring.com (or phone below).
Thanks!
