Library Collection Deployment Specialist #003294

This position will support a major project to reclassify the Law Library
collection. During this project much of the collection will be shifted on
the shelves, relabeled, and shifted again. In conjunction with this effort,
bar-coding, security stripping, book processing and other tasks will also be
performed. This is a one year fixed term position.

I. Under the direction of the Cataloging Supervisor,

(A) Responsible for ensuring that effective use is made of available stack
space in the Law Library. (20%)

1. Plans, supervises and participates in collection measurement projects
that support reclassification. Implements data collection/measurement
tools/techniques as needed. Maintains level of precision required based on
project goals. Trains hourly staff in data collection methods.
Compiles/verifies/maintains data as appropriate to project.

2. Estimates growth rate of collections, suggests need for and recommends
approaches to collection shifts based on knowledge of collections and data.

3. Creates/maintains data relating to available and occupied shelving space,
as appropriate to project.

(B) Plans, organizes, and manages major collection moves and shifts in the
Law Library. (60%)

1. In conjunction with appropriate staff, develops strategies for major
collection moves/shifts.

2. Prepares range and section level plans to insure that strategy is
successful.

3. Responsible for recruitment, training and daily supervision of student
and temporary workers; monitors workflow, maintains department standards.
Maintains hourly workers' scheduling and provides information and timesheets
to appropriate staff.

4. Provides information so that staff is well-informed of collection moves
in progress.

(C) Ongoing cataloging projects (10%)

        

1. Responsible for security stripping, bar-coding, re-labeling projects.

(D) Other duties as assigned (10%)

Level of responsibility:

This position is expected to lead other workers in performing the various
tasks, anticipate and notify supervisors of any problems. Position reports
to the Cataloging Supervisor.

Supervisory responsibility:

Responsible for recruitment, scheduling, training and supervision of hourly
workers.

Required:

Requires attention to detail, sound judgment, and physical ability to shift
books for up to two hour shifts. Must be able to move heavy book trucks and
climb steps to reach high shelves.

Must have excellent oral communication, project planning and management
skills. Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff as well as
workers with diverse backgrounds and skills. Ability to move easily among
tasks and to organize/complete tasks requiring many and diverse people.

Preferred:

Previous library experience with related tasks and responsibilities.
