I wonder if there isn't some way that our Associations can respond to
stories like this? It seems like compiling profiles of what various
types of librarians do - in terms that journalists can understand (e.g.
metadata assignment vs. cataloging) - and faxing it to the journlist or
news organizations when this type of letter comes out would be helpful.

I thought this was an interesting article. I find it a bit
disheartening, though, that they don't present libraries and librarians,
who have been advocating information literacy for years, in a better
light.

...Cal State and a number of other colleges are working with ETS to
create a test to evaluate Internet intelligence, measuring whether
students can locate and verify reliable online information and whether
they know how to properly use and credit the material.
