Jaye,
I think that's a great idea; SLA reputation management. Y'think having
direct response letters from individual chapters or a coordinated
response: HQ responsds after being notified by chapters?

I wonder if there isn't some way that our Associations can
respond to stories like this? It seems like compiling profiles of what
various types of librarians do - in terms that journalists can
understand (e.g. metadata assignment vs. cataloging) - and faxing it to
the journlist or news organizations when this type of letter comes out
would be helpful.

Subject: SLA-SF: New test would measure students' Web
wisdom
Hi,
I thought this was an interesting article. I find it a
bit disheartening, though, that they don't present libraries and
librarians, who have been advocating information literacy for years, in
a better light.
New test would measure students' Web wisdom
...Cal State and a number of other colleges are working
with ETS to create a test to evaluate Internet intelligence, measuring
whether students can locate and verify reliable online information and
whether they know how to properly use and credit the material.
