SAN FRANCISCO BAY REGION CHAPTER PROGRAM EVENT
Image Libraries: Best Practices and Pitfalls
Monday, January 9, 2005
Sinbad's Pier 2 Restaurant, San Francisco
Can your organization find the images it needs when it needs them? Do you know what you own? For help, join Natalie Munn and Robert MacKimmie for a discussion of image databases. They'll talk about scanning dos and don'ts, conservation basics, and general advice for developing and maintaining an image library.
Natalie K. Munn, M.A., M.L.IS., is an Information Systems Specialist with more than 10 years' experience. She works with libraries, museums, corporations, and academic clients to implement new systems and convert databases to more modern systems. Ms. Munn has specialized experience with library catalogs, controlled vocabularies/taxonomies, geographic information systems, and multimedia and image databases. Ms. Munn performs system analysis, database design, circulation, and database-enabled intra/internet projects. She is the Principle of Content Innovations, LLC (http://www.contentinnovations.com).
Robert MacKimmie participated in museum studies at UC Riverside during the time the California Museum of Photography was founded, and taught gallery and collection management at Northlight Gallery, part of Arizona State University's School of Art, where he received his M.F.A. He served as Curator of Photographs and Curatorial Director of Photography at the California Historical Society in San Francisco, where he conceived and was architect of a five-year archive cataloging and digitization project. In recent years, he has managed Galen Rowell's Mountain Light Gallery in Emeryville, which focused on state-of-the-art digital print production, and currently works in asset management at Sandbox Studio, a progressive digital photo studio in San Francisco. He still uses an 8-by-10 view camera for his personal work and still thinks of photographs as both magical and compelling.
Location: Sinbad's Pier 2 Restaurant, Pier 2, Embarcadero Street, San Francisco CA 94111, Tel. 415.781.2555, Sinbad's is next to the Ferry Terminal on the Embarcadero. See their website for a map: http://www.sinbadsrestaurant.com/directions.htm
