"Eddy Currents" at Six Flags

There are several rides existing now such as the 227 ft "Giant Drop" at Six
Flags Great America that use the principle of eddy currents. The Giant
Drop riders free fall from the top of a 227 ft tower. The only braking
system is the same principle as the magnet falling through the copper tube.
During the last 70 feet of the ride, magnets attached to the "cars" pass
over copper fins that stick out from the tower. This brings the ride to a
very quick, smooth and safe stop.
