touch the spring

I am an 8th grade student and I am trying to duplicate the touch the
spring exhibit using a spring. I bought the mirror and am using a
cardboard box in place of the wood box. I covered the outer edges of the
mirror but still I cannot manage to see a virtual image. What am I
doing wrong? Thanks for your advise.
