Science Educator
Institute for Inquiry

The Exploratorium is a museum dedicated to the public understanding of
science, art, and human perception. Founded in 1969 by Frank Oppenheimer,
it has pioneered the role of museums as active teaching centers with
original programming based on an interactive approach to learning. It
serves as an interdisciplinary resource for schools, universities,
scientists, and artists, as well as for the public.

SUMMARY
The Exploratorium Institute for Inquiry (IFI) is a National Science
Foundation-funded professional development center designed to promote
national leadership and support experiments in inquiry-based elementary
science education reform throughout the country. The Institute provides
programming which affords science educators (teachers, administrators,
university faculty, professional developers) a personal experience of
inquiry learning and how it translates to professional development and
classroom settings. The Science Educator will work with the IFI team of
scientists and educators to deliver and develop the Institute's national
and local professional development programs. These programs consist of
workshops, graduate seminars, national forums, teacher research groups,
publications, on-line support and a community of practice for program
graduates. A local "laboratory" of inquiry-based classrooms provides
opportunities for active study of new techniques for teaching inquiry.
