Pre-Intern Program

Application for MSAT / SSAT Preparation Course Instructor

What is the Pre-Intern Program?
The Pre-Intern program is designed to assist teachers with completing their
credential pre-requisites and requirements in a timely, supportive manner.
The San Mateo County Pre-Intern Program is a consortium of thirteen
districts throughout the county. Most teachers who are teaching on a
Pre-Intern Certificate need to complete subject matter requirements either
through coursework or through passing the MSAT (for multiple subject
teachers) or the SSAT (for single subject / secondary teachers). In
addition to providing support providers and credential advisement to
pre-intern teachers, the program offers MSAT and SSAT test preparation
courses.

In What Subject Areas Are Instructors Needed?
The eligible subject areas (as set by state grant guidelines) are:
English
Math (inc. calculus)
Science (bio., chemistry, earth sciences, physics)
Multiple Subject (elementary)

Job Description
Instructors will plan and deliver a total of 4 3-hour workshops (or 2
6-hour workshops on Saturdays). The audience for all workshops is beginning
teachers who have not met subject matter requirements needed to complete a
credential program and who will be taking the MSAT or SSAT and Praxis tests
during the 2000-2001 school year. The focus of each workshop will be
subject matter content and test taking strategies.

Qualifications:
Teaching experience in the subject area
Current teaching credential in subject area, or master's degree / doctorate
degree
Experience working with beginning teachers (e.g., mentor, buddy, support
provider) preferred
Presentation experience (with adult audiences)

Skills and Abilities To:
Use the test preparation curriculum to design the workshop series
Use evaluation feedback to modify course
Make effective presentations

Salary:
$50 / hour for 12 hours of workshop time and 6 hours of preparation time.
