Director of Education

Summary:
Experience Music Project (EMP) celebrates and explores creativity and
innovation as expressed through American popular music and exemplified by
rock 'n' roll. The Director of Education significantly contributes to the
synergy of the Project's work team to augment the efforts of the design,
technical, arts, media, film, sound lab, web design, and curatorial
components of EMP. This individual leads the Education team to develop and
manage instructional programs targeted specifically to the community,
schools, music festivals, special events, and external clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director of Education is responsible for the design and development of
comprehensive and innovative programs that recognize and nurture individual
creativity, promote participation and encourage exploration of musical
expression. Outcomes are the design and delivery of a far-reaching
education strategy and a tactical implementation plan to meet the needs and
the intent of EMP. The focus will be on the expansion of themes introduced
in various aspects of EMP and leveraging the Project's commitment to an
open and broad presentation of ideas that promote music, experience,
critical thinking and dialogue.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have an advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in
Music or Music Education, with a minimum of 5 years of senior management
experience leading a strong team of professionals and multiple projects in
a fast-paced, dynamic environment. A minimum of 8 years of solid work
experience planning, developing, designing and implementing successful
instructional programs with an emphasis on inspiring creativity and
innovation throughout the curriculum is required. This person will be
energetic, articulate and self-assured, and possess strong interpersonal
skills. This person will have the ability to exercise a strong presence to
convene groups, shape dialogues and develop and manage productive
relationships at all levels of EMP. Demonstrated maturity and sound
judgment are required. Excellent analytical skills, and strong proficiency
in computer technology is preferred. Background in popular music is highly
desired.
