How inviting does this sound? We need teachers!

Downtown High School is a small continuation school located in the Mission
District and serving students from all over the city who have previously
struggled in school. In order to offer such students a real alternative to the
traditional comprehensive high school structures that did not meet their
needs, Downtown High has restructured to offer whole-school project-based
learning. All teachers and all students participate in project teams.
Instead of a six period day with different subjects at different times,
project teams develop interdisciplinary curriculum and structure the day
according to curriculum needs. Project duration is one semester, wherein
students attend the project all day, every day. For the second semester,
teachers repeat their projects with a new set of students.

We are looking for creative teachers who can develop thematic, integrated,
hands-on projects for students. Teachers at Downtown have the freedom to
design projects themselves, with any subject or theme as the integrating
concept. Example of past and current integrating concepts include
environment, consumerism, habitats, entrepreneurship, literacy, and social
justice. As long as projects meet district standards in the core academic
areas, teachers are able to pursue their teaching passions and interests as
they develop curriculum.
