Hi, Pinholers!

I am involved in co-teaching a week long teacher workshop that uses the
resources from the Exploratorium, the San Francisco Zoo, and the Strybing
Arboretum. We're very excited about this collaboration! Please share this
information with your colleages.

Information about the workshop, and how to register follows.

Science In the City
Summer Teacher Workshop
June 18-22, 2001

Ever wonder how to integrate San Francisco's informal science centers into
your curriculum? Join us for this weeklong science extravaganza at three
of the area's most prestigious informal science centers: the San Francisco
Zoo, Strybing Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, and the Exploratorium.

Each day we'll be experiencing the magic of science inquiry and discovery
at one of the three institutions, led by staff members who love working
with teachers. You'll learn how you and your students can use the
institutions on site, as well as how to bring the best of each institution
into your classroom.

During this inaugural workshop, we'll explore form and function from the
area of expertise of the Zoo, the Arboretum, and the Exploratorium.
Hands-on explorations and active observation will be your primary tools, as
you learn about the relationship between form and function. You'll have
time to share ideas with other teachers and to start developing plans for
your classroom. By the end of the week you'll feel comfortable and
confident to start using the outstanding resources of these institutions
with your students. The workshop activities and explorations will be
aligned with California State standards for science education. The target
audience for this year's teacher institute will be teachers of grades 4
through 8. Academic credit through San Francisco State University will be
offered for all attendees. There is a per credit fee involved and checks
made payable to San Francisco State will be collected on the first day of
the workshop.

Come and join us for an exciting week of science and fun at the San
Francisco Zoo, the Strybing Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, and the
Exploratorium. It's sure to be a unique opportunity you won't want to
miss!

Registration fee to attend the workshop is $125

Registration forms must be postmarked by May 18.

Preference is given to teachers from San Francisco schools.
