Alternatives to Bunsen burners:

Candles stuck on tinned can lids -- free-- kids bring
Alcohol lamps (rubbing alcohol OK)
Small propane or Butane camp stove (demo or large group)

Nota Bene: heat output:, messiness and safety issues vary.
Choose wisely

Propane and Butane are denser than air (44 and 56 versus 29 for air --g per
mole)
they sink instead of rise like unlit natural gas (16)

Even gas powered stoves need adult supervision (only a few steps away)
because of the volume of heat.

Avoid liquid fueled stoves; the risk of a liquid gasoline leak has too great
a danger.

Lamp oil or kerosene lamps ??? breakage and spill...
Tiki torches??? tipover risk and smoke...
