The Merck Index gave no toxicity data on salol (phenyl salicylate;
2-hydroxybenzoic acid phenyl ester), but does list it as being "incompatible"
with thymol. (They don't list the nature of the incompatibility. The
toxicity data on thymol gives an LD50 of 980 mg/kg in rats (oral), which is
nearly identical to that of copper (II) sulfate. Sounds like a lot of fun.
