Museum Teacher
Part Time, Temporary Position
4 hours/week
$15/hour
The Oakland Museum of California Education Department
is looking for a temporary, part-time Museum Teacher
to teach the education program A Sense of Place. This
program, for grades 3-7, consists of three separate
but related components:

· SENSORY ACTIVITIES - Students begin the
program in the Museum Gardens with a Naturalist by
doing a series of activities to develop their senses
of observation and their verbal and non-verbal
statement skills.

· DOCENT TOUR OF ART GALLERY - Docents lead
students on a tour of the Art Gallery to explore
artworks in different ways and to learn about how
artists perceive and interpret nature.

· ART WORKSHOP - Students work with an artist to
make observations of the natural world and translate
them into an artwork.

This position teaches the Sensory Activities component
of the program ONLY.

Responsibilities:

· Demonstrate an ability to teach primary and
secondary grade children through interactive,
inquiry-based instruction.

· Have a clear understanding of ecology concepts
and a familiarity with the natural history of
California.
· Work well with the classroom teacher, adult
chaperones, and museum docents.
· Be organized, prompt, and prepared.
· Applicants who are fluent in English and
either Spanish or Chinese will be given preference.

This program is offered on 12 dates in April and May,
2002. The museum teacher must be
available for this position at the following times:

· 9:15am-11:15 am, Thursdays and Fridays, April
11-May 17, 2002

In addition, the museum teacher will attend a training
session before the start of the program.

The Hourly rate for this position is $15.00/hr.
