Hi Regan,

Combustion id usually defined as the reaction of oxygen with something
containing carbon and hydrogen to produce carbon dioxide and water. Example:
    2CH3OH + 3O2 ----> 2CO2 + 4H2O

Gypsum is calcium sulfate , CaSO4

Many bodies of water are buffered by carbonate and bicarbonate ions. If the
water gets too acidic, the buffering effect vanishes and the water becomes
susepable to large pH changes in both diections.

I hope this helps
