If you can get ahold of back issues of Scientific American from your school
or local library, there's a great article about it: "Making Sense of
Taste", March 2001, p. 32 - 39. There's a box on the last page that
desribes how the "taste maps" came to be (a mistranslation of a German
paper from the late 1800's). The article is an excellent source, as it
describes what's known about the physiology and neurobiology of taste.
