Subject: Ozone questions

We are reading articles about the 'hole' in the Ozone
layer above Antarctica.

I had a number of questions that I could not answer so
I wanted to see if folks could help me.

1) First..what is the chemical reaction for the
destruction of ozone by CFC's?

2) What is the basis (and chemical reaction) for the
renewal of ozone?

2.5) What is it about the colder months makes ozone
depletion more intense?

3) What causes the polar vortex that seems to isolate
the weather at the poles during the colder months.

4) What effect does the hole have on the inhabitants
(animal or human) of the poles?

5) Ozone is a pollutant at ground level. What human
activity produce ozone? If CFC's can get in the
stratosphere from the ground...how come Ozone can't
(or maybe it does)?

Help on any of these questions is appreciated.

thanks,

Andy.
