Several times on the news recently I have heard short accounts of a new
type of "smart bomb" that is being planned for use in Iraq. It sounded to
me like it would emit a blast of high-power radations (elctromagnetic I
assume - maybe beta?) over a number of frequencies and would disable
communications and I'm not sure what other kinds of electronic equipment.
Does anyone know anything about the physics of such a bomb? Is it indeed
real? Is it a high-energy radiation device? What frequencies would have
to be covered, and with what amplitude? How much total energy would this
represent, and how is it produced ( nuclear fission or fusion I assume) ?
Gort: Klada marada nictu!! I only wish that the circumstances were more
akin to those depicted in "The Day the Earth Stood Still" but personally I
am fearing the worst.
