2004 TERWILLIGER ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD

Nominations Now Being Accepted - Please Post and Distribute

WildCare: Terwilliger Nature Education and Wildlife Rehabilitation is
pleased to announce that it is now accepting nominations for the 2004
Terwilliger Environmental Award. With this award WildCare recognizes those
environmental educators who, like nationally renowned Elizabeth Terwilliger,
are committed to conservation and sustainability, and share their remarkable
love for the natural world with others.

The Terwilliger Environmental Award - and a $2,000 cash prize - will be
presented to the recipient at WildCare's annual Nature Lovers Ball on
Saturday, January 24, 2004 at the San Rafael Community Center.

Candidates can be nominated by individuals, schools, school districts,
environmental groups and other affiliated organizations. Nominations will be
reviewed by a panel of WildCare representatives.
The award recipient will be an individual, selected from Marin, Sonoma or
San Francisco County, who has:
* been a proven leader, inspiring children and adults to love nature by
making the study of nature interesting, fun and exciting;
* demonstrated a commitment to responsible action and a sustainable world;
* been active recently in the field of environmental education.

Previous award recipients are Dr. Martin Griffin, well-known environmental
activist and author, whose accomplishments include acquisition of the
Audubon Canyon Ranch, co-creation of the Tiburon Nature Sanctuary, and
preservation of the North Tomales Bay Open Space; Laura Honda, teacher at
Fairfax's Manor Elementary School, who led her students in building a nature
trail and swallow habitat, and in removing invasive (ivy, Scotch Broom)
plants; Jeanne Casella, Principal at Marinwood's Mary E. Silveira School,
who led her campus community to create an environmentally friendly campus
where they turned puddles into a nature pond, created a garden fertilized by
a lunch-room refuse-fed compost pile, encouraged "waste-free" lunches, and
helped in nearby creek restoration; Wendy Dreskin, whose work in
environmental education has taken her to elementary schools, the College of
Marin, the California Native Plant Society and the Larkspur Recreation
Department to share her botanical expertise and love of nature.

Please return nomination forms to WildCare by October 15, 2003. Forms can be
picked up at WildCare or downloaded at www.wildcaremarin.org. To receive a
form in the mail or ask quest
