Concepts and Challenges in Physical Science is an easier text for 8th
graders. Maybe not more exciting, but the material is broken up into
managable bites for the reluctant reader. It can be had for $12-20 from
Amazon or discount book dealers. I can tell little difference between
editions except the cover. There are also books in Earth and Life
Science.
