NOVA
"Magnetic Storm"
Tuesday, November 18, 2003 8 - 9:00 pm
Like the plot of a sci-fi B movie, something weird is happening
underground where the constant spin of Earth's liquid metallic
core generates an invisible magnetic force field that shields
our planet from harmful radiation in space. Gradually, the
field is growing weaker. This program looks into our
potentially unsettling magnetic future. (CC, Stereo, DVI)

At the companion Web site, view an animation of what happens
when the magnetic field reverses itself, watch a slide show of
auroras, and discover whether a dramatic change in the Earth's
magnetic field would affect the creatures that rely on it
during migration
