I thought cold welding had something to do with a
machining things so close that, when assembled in a
vacumn they would be held by atmospheric pressure.
Didn't they have some problems with space craft
surfaces becoming "cold welded" when they were sent
into space (although this doesn't make any sense if
atmospheric pressure is the culprit)? How close does
the tolerance have to be to cold weld something?

I just read in a car magazine about another new
welding techinque that is called "friction stir
welding" and it is pretty bizarre too.

Can't keep up with all this new stuff. Turn around for
a second and they're welding the damn molecules
together with ionic bonds. Jeez.

With firm handshake,
Raleigh
