Hi Biology Pinholers,

 

This is Steve Ribisi of the Teacher Institute. I am in the process of
conducting a research study on children's ideas in cell biology a la the
work of Rosalind Driver in the physical sciences (one of the authors of the
books Children's Ideas In Science, and Making Sense Of Secondary Science). I
am interested in finding out what concept of the cell is prevalent among
middle school and high school students. As a step towards that goal I would
like to see some examples of what teachers are doing in the classroom
related to cells. I am familiar with the CA State standards in cell biology
but not with what individual teachers are teaching in the classroom. I'd
very much like to see copies of lesson plans, syllabi, or curricula in cell
biology that you are using in your classroom. Perhaps folks could e-mail or
snail mail me copies or they could take a minute and type out as a reply to
this message a quick sketch of what they teach relating to cells and cell
biology?

information that I get to inform my research and I will share it with some
