Hey pinholers! Sally Ride Science Camp at Stanford is hiring lead
instructors!

America’s first female astronaut, Sally Ride, teamed up with Stanford
University and Galileo Educational Services to create an overnight program
that nurtures and inspires girls who enjoy science. Dr. Jim Plummer, Dean
of the Stanford School of Engineering, is the program’s faculty sponsor.
Together we are building the nation’s premier summer science program for
girls. Nearly 400 girls will attend in summer 2004.

Camp begins on June 20, and runs for three weeks. Each week, approximately
130 girls will attend. When they sign up, they choose a “Major,” which they
pursue for three hours per day. Other elements of the program include
leadership development, outdoor games, and a fantastic guest speakers
program.

The three majors available to the girls are:
1. Deep Sea Divas: Oceanography
2. Girl-Powered Gadgets: Mechanical Engineering
3. Shoot for the Start: Astronomy and Space Travel

A Lead Instructor plays the leadership role in each major, taking
responsibility for curriculum development and delivery of the program. An
Assistant Instructor and 1-2 Counselors will assist the Lead Instructor
during class. The Lead Instructor will deliver two three-hour sections per
day, one for girls entering 6th-7th grades, and one for girls entering
8th-9th grades.

Applications are due March 5, 2004, but we will consider applicants as they
come in.
See www.galileoed.com for job descriptions, application, and additional
program information. Please email jobs@galileoed.com or call 510-595-7293
if you’d like to discuss the positions.
