Hi Everyone,
Below is a description of a position at a new small
school in Oakland. The school is part of OUSD, is
beginning it's first year, and is starting with only a
6th grade class this year.
I think the position might be already filled, but
because they are planning to add a grade level every
year, the Principal could use some good resumes to

Job Description:
EXPLORE is Oakland’s newest small middle school. New
small schools have been created to specifically
address low student achievement in Oakland. EXPLORE
will open in the fall of 2004 with 100 sixth grade
students. EXPLORE will offer students an academically
rigorous college preparation program to prepare
students with the skills and motivation necessary for
success in college. Simultaneously, EXPLORE’s first
year will be dedicated to designing the school through
inquiry around, “what makes a great middle school?” A
design team of school leaders, teachers, students,
parents and community members will research the
teaching pedagogy and school culture of successful
middle schools for implementation at EXPLORE in 2005.
EXPLORE teachers will be researches and leaders in the
creation of a new middle school. Everything done at
EXPLORE will part of a deliberate plan to achieve
equitable academic, social and intellectual outcomes
for our students.
Qualifications:
TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS • California credential or
qualified to apply • CLAD • A minimum of three years
of teaching experience • Preference will be given to
candidates with urban experience and/or Spanish
proficiency. We are seeking 6th grade teachers who are
interested in working with the leadership team in the
development and design of EXPLORE Academy. They must
be willing to collaborate regularly in the design and
implementation of our educational program. They should
have extensive experience working with and engaging
families and be excited to use inquiry and action
research to improve their teaching practice.
