Hello Everyone,
Phil Stoffer from the USGS is leading a great field trip next month, and
has invited teachers to come along. Many of you have been on Phil's
geology trips - he does a great job!
You are welcome to participate on one or both days. If you attend both,
you may earn 1 unit of Geology 104 for $44. If you attend only one day,
it can be combined with any other BAESI Saturday workshop or field trip to
earn 1 unit. I'll ask Phil to give me a list of teacher participants.
I'll soon be sending out announcements for 3 other BAESI events that will
take place this fall.
Please contact Phil directly (contact info. below) to sign up or if you
have questions. It should be a wonderful trip!
Best regards,
Ellen

Subject: SEPM Field Trip -- for teachers?!?
Ellen and Richard,
I was wondering if you could send this field trip announcement out to your
teachers. This weekend field trip covers "the best of" some of my BAESI
and BASEE field trips in the past, and it comes with a field trip guidebook
that has "more graphics, less filling." It might be a good opportunity
for
teachers to rub elbows with USGS folks and other regional profs. They can
camp out if they want too! If you want to consider offering continuing ed
credit, I'd be happy to do what is necessary. The teachers would get over
15 hours of contact time and they'd learn about good local places to take
kids in relative safety...
The SEPM announcement is below... Thanks as always for your
consideration! Phil

SEPM FALL 2004 FIELD
TRIP: Geology of the San
Andreas Fault in the Santa
Cruz Mountains
October 8-10, 2004 registration form
The Pacific Section,
Society for Sedimentary
Geology (SEPM) Fall 2004
field trip (Oct. 8-10)
will focus on the San
Andreas Fault through the
Santa Cruz Mountains. Some
areas to be visited
experienced surface
rupture from the 1906 and
1989 earthquakes. The trip
is intended to highlight
landscape features
associated with the active
fault system. In addition
stops were chosen to
examine rocks and terranes
typical of both sides of
the fault; many of the
locations are of highly
scenic character
associated with a variety
of mountain habitats
ranging from grasslands,
chaparral, oak and
evergreen forests, and
redwoods. Interested
novices and students of
geology, and professionals
are all urged to sign up
for the field trip.
Lively discussion and arm
waving are expected!
Field guides will be
available for registered
participants.
The cost of the field trip
registration is:
$10.00 for students;
$22.00 for non-student
PS-SEPM members;
$25.00 for non-student
non-members.

The Sunday field trip
(October 10th: 9:00 am to

The Sunday field trip will
visit geologic and
fault-related features in
the Sierra Azul Open Space
Preserve and park lands
around Lexington Reservoir
and on Loma Prieta Peak
and the surrounding area.
The field trip will begin
at 9:00 am at the
Lexington Reservoir Dam
