My AP Chem kids today were asking why standard conditions are
different for gases and thermodynamics problems (25 deg C for thermo,
0 deg C for gases). This has also annoyed the hell out of me -- can
someone explain why there are different temps chosen for standard
conditions, depending on what aspect of the system you're looking at?
Thanks,
Geoff
