They do mention that the ocean waves from this even were 
detected when they hit the west coast of the U.S.
The event was caused by the India Plate subducting under 
the Burma plate. See image.
They say that 1200 km length of fault slipped an avarage 
of 15 meters with several meters of lifting of the sea 
floor causing a tsunami.
