Can someone tell me if I calculted the energy of the recent 9.0 earthquake
correctly?

The Richer scale number = log(I/10^-4) where I is the approximate total
energy released in an earthquake.

Therefore 10^9 = I / (10^-4)

Thus I = 10^13 Joules. Compare this with 10^15 J for the largest nuclear
weapon ever built.

Is this accurate at all?
