Hello fellow Pinholers,

A friend of mine recently traveled to New Zealand. While there, she
visited Rotorua, a touristed geyser basin on the north island. Apparently,
one of the most famous attractions is a geyser that erupts daily at 10 am.
Eventhough this geyser has a period of 24 to 72 hours, it always erupts at
about 10 am everyday.

Turns out that the geyser is prompted to erupt by pouring soap down it's
throat (before 10 am).

Here's my question, how does the soap work?
Does it reduce the surface tension near the surface or does it effect
the boiling further down?
