I am interested in having my students cross fruit flies to study genetic
crosses. I have not done this in years and remember having limited success
when I did do it. Does anybody have any recommendations for the types of
flies that should be crossed? Is there a better/cheaper supplier of flies
and materials? I would appreciate learning of any manuals or books that
decribe a procedure that works well.

Also, are there any updated procedures for preparing and staining the
salivary gland chromosomes of the fruit fly larva?

Thanks,
