RE>flowing glass-not 2/6/97

A much more realistic explanation is that windows were not made perfectly
back
then, and , given a choice as to which way to install it, our historical Bob
Villa's put
the panes in thick side down...

re Eric's question on whether glass flows:
See the corning glass science site
http://www.pennynet.org/glmuseum/edglass.htm
Where the Corning glass scientists point out that at normal temperatures
glass flows so slowly that glass flow cannot explain the thickness and
wavyness of ancient glass.

(motor oil has a viscocity of about 1 poise
glass has a viscocity of over 10 to the 20'th poise.)

So that, even though glass does not have a crystal structure and is
amorphous, it is an amorphous solid (at room temperature and for times
shorter than the age of the universe.)
