Dan, your question about comets-I don't think very many is any orbit in the
plane of the solar system. I know that Halley's Comet comes up from below at
a rather steep angle. My explanation would be that if they truly come in from
the Oort's Cloud spherical halo around the solar system, they could come in
at any angle and any plane. Bryan
